Amsterdam: Kings Day Festival - Part 3 - The End

Amsterdam: Final Day

Can we just talk for a moment about how BEAUTIFUL Amsterdam is? I mean, just LOOK at this view! Day 3, last a final day to run around and do what we want.  We kept getting "stuck" in places as we were just having too much fun catching up.  Our only goal for the day was to go to the Flower Market and then to the Torture Museum.  I'm not quite sure what I was expecting from both but neither was what I pictured in my head!

For some reason, I didn't think about the words Flower MARKET and expected to be in a field of flowers, frolicking my little heart out... sadly there was no frolicking involved and instead, I was surprised with an actual flower market that is famous for being partly on the canal and so is considered "floating":

It was extremely crowded, full of bulbs and seeds for flowers, plants, etc with mechanized butterflies and lots of cheese and waffles.  :D  My friend kept yelling out, "Those are some big bulbs!"  And yes, they most certainly were.

Next up!  The torture museum:

Sadly, extremely disappointing.  I don't know what we were expecting but for $10 we got to walk through, read about the various devices and that was that.  Nothing exciting - even the writing on the walls re what they were used for fell flat and didn't keep any of our interests.  🖓  I 100% do NOT recommend this place.  Save your money - the most torturous thing about this was having to go through it - luckily it only lasted for about 2 minutes.  But hey - here's some pictures anyway!

From there we decided to walk around through the red light district and then find dinner.  Red light district - WHY SO DISAPPOINTING?   I guess I expected a more Total Recall kind of experience 🤣 - instead we just saw girls (most of them gorgeous, I gotta say), standing in windows like a pet shop, looking bored as hell and on their cell phones.  We moseyed by the Prostitution Information center but it was closed and having had enough disappointment, off to dinner we go!

We tried to go to a few places that had been suggested to us, but alas, we did it wrong and didn't make reservations - but everything happens for a reason and we ended up at Fou Fow Ramen and we all highly recommend it! So good! And exactly what we needed as it was the coldest night yet.

We set off for one more drink before heading back to our apartment as we were all traveling the next day.  Here are some more beautiful views:

Amsterdam pigeons are just as unafraid as New York pigeons - though they actually do look cleaner.

Found The American Book Center - didn't go in but it was nice to know it was an option :)

There are bikes EVERYWHERE - it reminded me of Burning Man except that there were no real distinct features on any of them - HOW do they find their bikes when they need them?  Still a mystery to me!  And they are aggressive - between the cars, trams, buses and bikes I was surprised I didn't get run over.

I think this dude protected me most of the time - nothing like a stoner alien with a hemp hat to move things right along.

And so ends this year's Girls Weekend in Amsterdam.  A picture from our final day - still smiles on our face (may have been the liquor or gas, but I think it's just good old fun)..  And then there were two......

Thanks for following along so far - I see you out there - I don't know who you are since this account still doesn't let me know who is following me (haha) but I see the hits so THANK YOU.  Stay tuned as here comes 7 days in England - tonight is just take away Chinese, wine and relaxing.

See you in a couple of days! <3

xoxox,

Chandra
