My Review:

Ahhhh!  Thanks to my co-Buddy Reads to Die For hosts for allowing me to choose one of my all time favorite Koontz books as our February book club read.  I haven't read this book in literal decades - the first being when I was soooo young and to be reading it now, 30+ years later (yes, I'm old), and through different, more experienced eyes.. I'm beyond thrilled to find that I STILL love this novel SO DAMN MUCH.

Do I have things to say about certain parts of this book that may not have worked for me if I had read it for the first time today?  Absolutely.  Would that have changed my love for this book?  I really don't think so! I also love just how short the synopsis is. What does this story entail?  Time travel (PARADOX!), probably a bit of glorified stalking (ay-oooooooooo), Hitler, lightning (of course) and the story of Laura - from birth to *present* day (present as in 1989) and I am still grinning ear to ear.  Also, can we talk about her son and how awesome this kid is?!

Ahhh - this just brings back so many good memories.  Koontz at his finest, in my humble opinion.  My favorite book of his is Watchers, which I implore you to read if you haven't... and in his horror realm, I'd recommend Whispers and Phantoms.  Uff - now I want to go read his backlist AGAIN.. well, the ones I liked anyways.

Y'all - this book delivers. It captivates you straight from the get go. I can't recommend it enough. Koontz, Koontz bo Boontz - my heart is happy.

Jessica's Review:

This was the newest #BuddyReadsToDieFor selection and it’s about time I picked up some more books by Koontz. I’ve only read his newest Jane Hawk series, so LIGHTNING is my first from his backlist. I completely understand why this is one that so many people recommend and why it’s Chandra’s favorite. We get time travel, some historical fiction in the mix, stalkers, mystery, some thriller elements, guardian angels – I know it sounds like it could get complicated to follow along with but everything works together seamlessly and flows so well. I can see why so many people love reading Dean Koontz’s books, they’re very easy to read and really fast-paced. Despite the beginning feeling a little slower for me once it picked up I couldn’t put it down.

How can I talk about this book without potentially spoiling it? I think that the synopsis gives the perfect amount of information – just vague enough to not ruin any surprises but enough to pique your curiosity. The only real issue I had while reading were in parts involving the time travel elements. Jumping back and forth at times had me confused and I had to reread some pieces to get my mind straight but otherwise I really enjoyed it! When I think about Koontz I think just strictly horror and that’s not the case with this book (and the Jane Hawk series) this is a mix of sci-fi, thriller, and historical fiction all in one. I’ll have to finally pick up some more of Koontz’s backlist and most loved books by so many readers.
