You already know how much I love this book.  #CJSReads also decided to continue this series and we all agree - 5 stars across the board!! Come see what Jess and Sam also thought!

Every time Gwen closed her eyes, she saw him in her nightmares. Now her eyes are open, and he’s not going away.Gwen Proctor won the battle to save her kids from her ex-husband, serial killer Melvin Royal, and his league of psychotic accomplices. But the war isn’t over. Not since Melvin broke out of prison. Not since she received a chilling text…

You’re not safe anywhere now.

Her refuge at Stillhouse Lake has become a trap. Gwen leaves her children in the protective custody of a fortified, well-armed neighbor. Now, with the help of Sam Cade, brother of one of Melvin’s victims, Gwen is going hunting. She’s learned how from one of the sickest killers alive.

But what she’s up against is beyond anything she feared—a sophisticated and savage mind game calculated to destroy her. As trust beyond her small circle of friends begins to vanish, Gwen has only fury and vengeance to believe in as she closes in on her prey. And sure as the night, one of them will die.

Jessica's Review:

I was so excited to be able to dive straight into this one after STILLHOUSE LAKE. Rachel Caine, how have you created such a suspenseful and addicting series?? How can I say more about the series when I don't want to spoil the end of book one?
We're back with Gwen Proctor after she saved her children from her serial killer ex-husband and those that were helping him. Just when she thinks the nightmare is over she receives a text, "You're not safe anywhere now". Her ex-husband has escaped from prison and coming for her.
I don't want to say anything more for those that have read book one but not book two yet. Rachel Caine delivers a dark and thrilling follow up to STILLHOUSE LAKE. I honestly didn't think she'd be able to top it, but damn, she blew it out of the water. We change perspectives in this one, as opposed to staying purely in Gwen's perspective in book one. The readers get to see through the eyes of Gwen, Sam (her neighbor), and her children.
If you loved STILLHOUSE LAKE then you need to pick up KILLMAN CREEK (as I'm sure you already planned on doing!). This one is darker than the first book and has some cringe-worthy moments, but it's so worth it and addicting.
Overall, if you want a fast-paced thriller filled with suspense and paranoia, then you need to add this to your TBR now. I can't wait for book three (sadly I'll have to wait!)
I give this one 5/5 stars!
Sam's Review:
Last night, after binge reading Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Caine, I was dying to continue on.  That cliff-hanger!!??   Luckily for me, cjsreads had decided to make Killman Creek, Book 2 in the Stillhouse Lake series, our next December read.
Now, since this is Book 2 in the series, I would highly recommend starting back with Book 1.  Not only is it incredibly entertaining but the stories absolutely tie in together.  In fact, it is a little hard to talk about Book 2 without giving away any spoilers!
Killman Creek opens pretty much where Stillhouse Lake finished, which I really appreciated.  I love being able to pick up in the midst of the action.  I won’t say much about the actual plot other than to note that this book has even more twists and turns than the first book in the series.  I found myself flipping the pages as fast as I could as I devoured the story.  Caine does an excellent job at weaving facts with red herrings to deceive her reader.
The narrative unfolds differently in Killman Creek as Caine allows us multiple character perspectives.   This time, Gwen is not the only character with a voice.  We are able to hear from both of her children and Sam Cade.   I absolutely loved this.  I loved the characters a bit more multi dimensional and found that it added an extra layer of suspense to the plot.
Now that I have finished reading, I have no idea what Book 3 will be about and I appreciated that Caine tied up the story nicely instead of leaving me in suspense.  I don’t think my heart could take it since it doesn’t come out until October.  I will be waiting patiently over here until then!
If you want a suspenseful novel, then I would highly recommend this series!  It sort of reminded me of Seven meets Sleeping with the Enemy.  Just brilliant!
5/5 stars.

My Review:

After devouring Stillhouse Lake in one sitting, I was so happy to have a copy of Killman Creek to read right away.  I needed to know what was going to happen!!! SL was so good that I thought for sure KC wasn't going to top it.  Boy was I wrong!  The pacing is faster, the read is darker and good lawd, Rachel Caine, won't you give poor Gwen a break already?!  **shakes fist**

Stillhouse Lake is from Gwen's perspective alone so we get a full on feel of her character and mindset and the author holds no punches in her paranoia and fierce love for her children.  Going into Killman Creek, we now get four different perspectives, Gwen, Sam and the kids - Lanny and Connor.  At first this was a bit off putting.  I think most of that came from reading it back to back.  As soon as I got used to this, I couldn't put the book down.  The author does a fantastic job in having me feel for each of these characters.  I already had great love for Gwen, but now I really got know the other characters and uff... there were some moments where I just wanted to scream, cringe and just throw the book in frustration.  But hey, lets not kill my kindle, right?

I am beyond ecstatic to know there's a book three coming out.  I am in a bit of a book hangover after both of these and may need something lighter in between.  Maybe... 😉
