One moment will change their lives forever…

Competitive skier Mindy Wright is a superstar in the making until a spectacular downhill crash threatens not just her racing career but her life. During surgery, doctors discover she’s suffering from a severe form of leukemia, and a stem cell transplant is her only hope. But when her parents are tested, a frightening truth emerges. Mindy is not their daughter.

Who knows the answers?

The race to save Mindy’s life means unraveling years of lies. Was she accidentally switched at birth or is there something more sinister at play? The search for the truth will tear a family apart…and someone is going to deadly extremes to protect the family’s deepest secrets.

With vivid movement through time, Tear Me Apart examines the impact layer after layer of lies and betrayal has on two families, the secrets they guard, and the desperate fight to hide the darkness within.

My Review:

It's no secret that I'm a fan of J.T. Ellison.  Her writing is addictive and her storytelling keeps you consistently picking the book up, turning page after page until you get all the answers.  This book starts off strong - anything that includes a mental health facility and the characters within will immediately grab my attention.  Then we get thrown into the present where we have the parents of a star skier watch her fall and get immediately taken to the nearest hospital.  And this is where the story begins.

I don't want to give too much away but I can tell you that while there is an air of mystery to this book, I'm not sure I would QUITE put it in the category of your typical thriller.  This comes across as a slow burn suspense - however, when I saw slow burn, I don't mean it reads slow - it most certainly does NOT.  Ellison instead brings each character to life as the mystery behind some interesting news to the family is slowly and carefully revealed.

I do wish there was more scenes and a further look into the past chapters with the mental health facility and the whys - I wanted just a smidge more detail regarding this time.  Look, Ellison has a way of bringing everything together and putting everything together by the end of the novel that leaves you satisfied... and only wanting more because you don't want her books to end.

Highly recommend - especially if you like the added DNA type lesson - science, thriller and a bit of WTF?  Sign me up - always!

Jessica's Review:

Last year I was introduced to J.T. Ellison when I picked up her book LIE TO ME. I was immediately hooked and she quickly became an auto-buy author for me, so when I saw she had a new book releasing, I couldn't wait! TEAR ME APART is another addictive read, but it is different than LIE TO ME. This one still keeps its hold on you until the end, but it's not a crazy twisty thriller.

There are two timelines - one that brings us into a mental facility and then into the present with a skier that is rushed to the hospital after taking a nasty fall. I don't want to give anything else away - the synopsis does a great job for this one - simply because it's a story you should go into fairly blind.

Ellison creates these flawed and complex characters and dives into the topic of mental health. The chapters that had to deal with the mental facility were so intriguing to me and I would have loved more of those! We also get a dose of DNA work and analysis (another topic that fascinates me) that adds another layer to this intricately woven story.

There is no doubt that Ellison is an incredible writer. The way she peels back the layers for us as the story progresses is amazing and she is able to tie everything together in the end without it feeling too perfect. If you're looking for an absorbing suspense novel, then this needs to be on your TBR!

I give this 4.5/5 stars!
